Silverline Records (Silverline Classics / MyUtopia)

Silverline Classics

As the written content creator for the entire Silverline Classics catalogue, I immersed myself in the history and culture of Classical music while researching and writing copy that earned the attention of the GRAMMY nominations committee and nods from even the strictest audiophiles. From lengthy biographical liner notes to sell-sheet blurbs, Silverline counted on me for both their creative and marketing copy needs. I led the development of more than twenty canonical Classical music titles and when the label expanded to release some Contemporary Pop and Electronic tracks, I was invited to take those projects in hand as well.

Handel's "The Water Music" & "Royal Fireworks Music" by the English Chamber Orchestra, Conducted by Johannes Somary: Excerpt from Notes on the Program (Silverline Classics)

So mammoth a traffic jam clogged up London Bridge and its surroundings on April 27, 1749, that 12,000 people had to wait some three hours to reach Green Park, where Handel's Royal Fireworks Music was being given its first performance. The occasion was a celebration in honor of the peace of Aix-la-Chapelle, which history shows provided only temporary peace and minimal benefits to England. To accompany the grand display of fireworks, the King commissioned Handel to write music with "martial instruments." And so it was that Handel wrote his Royal Fireworks Music for nine trumpets, nine horns, three sets of timpani, several side drums, twenty-four oboes, twelve bassoons, and a couple of new instruments–the newly invented contra-bassoon and a whining bass cornet with eight feet of tubing like a snake. When Handel first saw that odd instrument, he is said to have asked, "What the devil be that?" He was told, "It is a new instrument called a serpent." "Oh, the serpent!" said Handel. "Aye, but it not be the serpent what seduced Eve."
After the overture, a hundred and one cannons proclaimed the Royal Salute. During the siciliana-like movement entitled "The Peace," fireworks began to roar atop a strange-looking temple erected especially for the occasion. And while people were revelling in what must have looked like the Second Coming, the temple burst into flames and general pandemonium ensued. Well, both the celebration and the peace treaty that inspired it might be termed a fiasco, but the music survives in all its glorious splendor…
Beethoven's "Symphony No. 5" & "Leonore Overture" by the Philharmonic Promenade Orchestra of London, Conducted by Sir Adrian Boult: Excerpt from Liner Notes (Silverline Classics)
creative direction - content development - copywriting

Beethoven's Fifth, with its insistently ominous four-note opening, may easily be regarded as one of the most famous symphonies ever written. He began this piece almost immediately following his Symphony No. 3 and the revolutionary nature of his earlier work is taken to new heights here in this landmark masterpiece. Coupled with the lofty Leonore Overture, the irresistible drive and sweep of this monumental symphony carries the listener on a journey of epic proportions. From the introductory "knock of Fate upon the door," Beethoven captivated audiences' emotions and imaginations with this, his most celebrated composition…
Cantaloube's "Songs of the Auvergne" by Natania Davrath: Distributor's Sell-Sheet (Silverline Classics)

Joseph Canteloube's compositions gained him eminence in French musical life, and his folk music research and arrangements added treasure to the heritage of song. His settings of Songs of the Auvergne are classics of their kind, and this rendition by the brilliant Netania Davrath is a jewel in the Vanguard crown. Remixed and remastered from the original session master tapes, Davrath's soprano is perfectly adapted here to the Auvergne dialect and lends richness, beauty and charm to this extraordinary musical compilation.

Winner of the 1999 L.A. Music Award in the category of Outstanding Guitarist, opening shows for Bonnie Raitt and hailed as the only woman asked to audition for the post-Garcia incarnation of the Grateful Dead, Lauren Ellis once again showcases her skills on her latest release, Feels Like Family. Recording in her new hometown of Nashville, Tennessee, and playing acoustic, electric, National steel, lap and baritone guitars, Ellis brings melodic life to this latest collection of memorable and heartfelt songs. Accompanied this time around by stellar players Viktor Krauss (Lyle Lovett), Kenny Malone (Alison Krauss), Dean Parks (Steely Dan) and Tony Joe White, the album truly feels like a family affair…

"Narrow Path" by Josh One: Excerpt from Trade Press Release (MyUtopia Records)
copywriting

Josh One exploded onto the music scene when his Grammy-nominated commercial remix for Po' Folks went Platinum for Nappy Roots and Atlantic Records. His single Contemplation was then remixed by King Britt and vaulted to the top of the UK and European DJ charts, becoming an international dance floor staple. The song was named one of the tunes of the year by UK magazine, The Face, and has since been featured on numerous compilations, earning Josh One a recognized name amongst tastemaker DJs and music lovers around the world.
On the heels of Contemplation's fire, Josh and an elite group of musicians returned to the studio to work on his first full-length album, showcasing his talents as an artist and producer in his own right. Narrow Path is the result of this collaboration with underground favorite MCs Aloe Blacc and Micah 9 as well as drummer Marshall Goodman (Sublime), trumpet player Printz Board (Black Eyed Peas), bassist Caleb Speir (Nikka Costa, Macy Gray) and vocalist Kandace Lindsey, to name just a few. Ranging from moody down-tempo to break beat, nu-jazz, hip-hop and even Latin rhythms, Narrow Path is a seriously funked-up fusion of diverse sounds and styles…
